The breakout of acne in your skin during your teen years can leave persistent scars on your skin that you may feel embarrassed and they eventually reduce the glow in your face. Acne is a disease caused in the hair follicles of face, chest, and back that affects almost all teenagers during their puberty. Loss of tissue: These are the most common scars that are visible in the form of pits and are submerged as hollows. These are caused due to loss of tissues which are commonly called as ice-pick scars, depressed fibrotic scars or soft scars.


Acne scar removal options:

Dermabrasion and Microdermabrasion

These are very effective scar removal methods in which during dermabrasion method, a high-speed brush is used to remove the deeply penetrated scars, that helps to resurface your skin. It takes several days to heal afterward. During microdermabrasion, small crystals are sprayed on the surface of skin instead of a high-speed brush and there is no downtime after this treatment.


This is the best treatment for depressed acne scars which is a newer treatment method. Here, a small handheld needle-studded roller or handheld pen is punched on the surface of scars. When the needle punctures the numbed skin and when the skin heals it makes collagen thereby reducing the depth of acne scars. But this treatment takes about 9 months to see changes and it is best suitable for all skin tones.

Chemical peels

These can reduce the appearance of shallow scars and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. This involves the application of an acid to your skin to remove the outer layer and it gives a smoother rejuvenating effect to your skin. You may experience redness and peeling of your skin a few days after the application of acid.

Laser resurfacing

Like a chemical peel method, laser resurfacing removes the top surface of your skin that has a faster healing period as compared to other methods. It contours the area of acne scars and reduces the redness of spots. Various types of lasers are used to produce the best results and you need to keep your skin covered with a bandage until it gets completely healed.


The dermatologists use fillers as a treatment for acne to even out your skin by filling the submerged areas with rich collagen, hyaluronic acid or fat that are eventually absorbed on to your skin. These filler injections are repeated for a few months and there is no downtime for recovery.

Punch excisions and Skin Grafting

In these methods, surgery is performed by your doctor to remove the scars individually by excising or cutting out. The cavity left behind is treated with stitches or skin grafts. In skin grafting a small piece of normal skin is used to fill the area of scarred skin. The skin grafts are usually taken behind your ears.
